Puerto Peñasco port has charter boats available for fishing or sight seeing. The Sea of Cortez features a wide variety of fish including flounder, grouper, marlin, red snapper, sea bass, dolphins and yellowtail.
Thirty miles North of Puerto Peñasco Mexican highway 8 passes near the Pinacate Desert National Park, which was designated a biosphere reserve in the early 1990s. The Pinacate is one of the world’s most unique environments consisting of lava fields interspersed with sand dunes and moonlike craters. Camping is allowed with a permit. The estuary directly North of Casa del Milagro is within easy walking distance and is an ideal spot for swimming since it is protected from ocean waves. During high tides the estuary fills to a depth of 20 feet. At low tide, the estuary is walkable and marine life in tide pools may be explored.
